Cantor to Abbas: Keep Your Word
Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement today after Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas met with U.S. officials in Washington:
"I hope that Mr. Abbas learned today that he must keep his word to stop the murderous tyranny of the radical terrorist groups that operate freely in Israel.
"Each point at which Israel has made concessions to the Palestinian Authority has been met with more violence and attacks from Palestinian terrorists. Mr. Abbas has only paid lip service to his promise to stop these terrorist attacks.
"If Mr. Abbas wants to be taken seriously, he must immediately begin disarming the terrorists as well as ban them and their organizations, like Hamas and Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, from participating in elections.
"America's support for its only democratic ally in the Middle East, Israel, is unwavering. Mr. Abbas will not have any credibility until he takes seriously his commitment to the peace process and disarms the terrorists."
