Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives approved H. Res. 6, Adopting the Rules of the House for the One Hundred Sixteenth Congress - Title III. Introduced by House Democrats, Cole opposed the amendment to House Rules which would authorize the House to intervene in Texas v. the United States, a pending lawsuit regarding the legality of Obamacare.

"This misguided amendment to House Rules is an unnecessary stunt by House Democrats to reaffirm their position on Obamacare and attempt to save the broken law from failure in the courts. If Democrats truly care about protecting Americans and improving their access to quality healthcare, the better approach would be to actually pass a constitutionally sound law that is well-considered, well-structured and that will result in lower premiums and better access to health insurance. Unfortunately, that is not the intent behind this amendment to House Rules approved by Democrats. Instead, Democrats have sought to defend the indefensible and waste taxpayer dollars in the process."
