McHenry Applauds Nomination of Malpass for World Bank President

Statement

Date: Feb. 6, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Patrick McHenry (NC-10), Republican leader of the House Financial Services Committee, issued the following statement in support of the nomination of Treasury Under Secretary David Malpass to be the next President of the World Bank:

"I applaud the Trump Administration for proposing Treasury Under Secretary David Malpass as the next President of the World Bank. In its oversight of the Bank, the House Financial Services Committee has expressed bipartisan concern over the Bank's lack of focus, including a tendency to prioritize generating loans rather than ensuring that projects achieve lasting results for those in need.

"Since his confirmation in 2017, Under Secretary Malpass has worked effectively with Congress to hold the Bank accountable, and his emphasis on raising incomes for the poor has been welcome. I hope that his leadership can represent a bright chapter for the World Bank, one where the Bank puts economic growth and opportunity at the top of its agenda."
