Congressman Lowenthal Elected Chair of Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee

Press Release

Date: Jan. 29, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) today issued the following statement regarding his election to head the House Natural Resources Committee's (HNRC) Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR):

"I am proud to be formally elected today by my fellow HNRC Democrats as the new Chair of the EMR subcommittee. As Chair, I plan to focus on the need for sustainable onshore and offshore renewable energy development on federal lands. I also plan to hold the Trump Administration accountable for their actions putting the profits of the fossil fuel industry ahead of the protection of our environment and public spaces. It's time to get to work."

The EMR subcommittee has jurisdiction over coal and hard rock mining issues, U.S. geological survey, and American energy production on federal lands -- both onshore and offshore -- to ensure that they are developed in a safe and equitable manner so that U.S. taxpayers are properly compensated for their use. The subcommittee also performs oversight of Executive Branch actions involving mining and energy production on onshore and offshore federal lands.
