Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) has been appointed to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure by the Steering and Policy Committee. The Congresswoman joins a select group of freshman on this busy committee chaired by Congressman Peter DeFazio (OR-04).

"I sought to serve on this committee because of its jurisdiction over issues of critical importance to Texas' Seventh Congressional District, including flood control and oversight of the Army Corps of Engineers; federal management of emergencies and natural disasters; and transportation infrastructure including roads, railroads, pipelines, and the agencies that regulate them," Congresswoman Fletcher said. "I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with my colleagues on the important matters before the Committee, and I am ready to get to work."

The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads. The Committee also has jurisdiction over other aspects of our national infrastructure, such as clean water and waste water management, the transport of resources by pipeline, flood damage reduction, the management of federally owned real estate and public buildings, the development of economically depressed rural and urban areas, disaster preparedness and response, and hazardous materials transportation. The Transportation Committee has broad jurisdiction over the Department of Transportation, the U.S. Coast Guard, Amtrak, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Economic Development Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and others.
