Pelosi Statement on the Lunar New Year

Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in recognition of the Lunar New Year:

"The Lunar New Year is a joyous time of reflection, celebration and optimism for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across the country and around the world. As we welcome the Year of the Pig, we draw inspiration from the beauty and diversity of our immigrant heritage and the remarkable contributions that AAPI families have made to San Francisco and to our nation.

"Every year, San Francisco's streets are made even more vibrant and festive as we celebrate and welcome the Lunar New Year. As home to one of the largest AAPI communities in America, San Francisco knows that the beauty is truly in the mix. The rich tapestry of traditions and cultures that define our community strengthens and enriches us, and moves us to honor those who make our community grow and thrive.

"In the spirit of the Year of the Pig -- characterized by prosperity and good fortune -- we commit ourselves to advancing progress for all Americans. We must embrace the hope of this festive season to honor our values and work to provide a brighter future of all Americans.
