Statement

Date: Jan. 9, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

The Senate Appropriations Committee today announced that United States Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) will serve as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development for the 116th Congress.

Senator Alexander said: "I look forward to continuing to serve as chairman of the Senate energy and water development appropriations subcommittee. Last year, for the fourth straight year, the subcommittee recommended and Congress approved record funding for the Office of Science, which supports our national laboratories, funding to help keep the United States first in the world in supercomputing, and funding for rebuilding and maintaining locks, dams and harbors, including Chickamauga Lock outside of Chattanooga.

"This year, we should resolve the more than 30 year stalemate over how to dispose of used nuclear fuel. I support proceeding on all fronts: funding Yucca Mountain, as well as storing used nuclear fuel at interim storage sites and at private facilities."

Alexander is also the chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee and will also serve on the following committees this Congress:

Energy and Natural Resources Committee
Rules and Administration Committee
