Date: Jan. 15, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Defense

Last night, it was announced that Rep. Xochitl Torres Small (NM-02), was appointed to the highly sought-after House Armed Services Committee. She was one of sixteen Democratic members newly appointed to the committee.

In response to her appointment, Rep. Torres Small said "Southern New Mexico's military installations are essential to the national security of our country. Since being elected, I've had the opportunity to visit both White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base to learn more about their missions, and all that each are doing to keep Americans safe every day. These installations are also essential to southern New Mexico's economy and are part of the backbone of their communities. I look forward to the opportunity to grow and improve the presence of the Armed Services in southern New Mexico through my work on the House Armed Services Committee."

New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District is home to both White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base, which both utilize the largest restricted airspace over land in the country to complete their missions. This airspace over White Sands is also heavily used by both Cannon and Kirtland Air Force Bases as well as Fort Bliss Military Base in their missions.
