Schneider to Serve on Health and Social Security Subcommittees of Ways and Means Committee

Statement

Today, Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) was appointed to the Subcommittee on Health and the Subcommittee on Social Security in the House Committee on Ways and Means.

The Subcommittee on Health handles legislation and oversight of the Affordable Care Act, in particular the tax credits that help consumers afford coverage. Additionally, the subcommittee has jurisdiction over Medicare, including overseeing the Medicare Trust Fund, payments to health care providers, and the Medicare Advantage and Part D programs.

The Subcommittee on Social Security handles all legislation and oversight related to the Social Security system, including overseeing the Social Security Trust Fund, worker and employer contributions, and the administration of benefits.

"I am excited about these Subcommittee assignments and the opportunity to strengthen the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Social Security benefits that thousands of Tenth District constituents depend on," said Schneider. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to improve these vital health care, retirement, and social safety programs."
