Healthy communities and a healthy workforce are essential to our state's success.
Speaker Gideon believes that health care is a right, not a privilege, and thinks that every Mainer deserves access to universal, affordable, quality care.

During her time in the legislature, she has repeatedly supported efforts to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. As passed by voters in 2017, this law will reduce uncompensated care that shifts costs onto all of our people and businesses, and inject $500 million into Maine's economy. Despite unnecessary delays and obstruction, Sara continues to advocate for full implementation and looks forward to seeing 70,000 Mainers gain access to health care.

Sara is also committed to tackling the problems that remain in our health care system, including cracking down on runaway prescription drug prices and addressing mental health with the same seriousness that we treat physical health.

She is a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood and all providers of the full range of family planning and reproductive health services. She believes all women deserve access to critical primary and preventive health care services to, including preventative care, birth control, and cancer screenings.

In her service to the state, she has worked across the aisle to combat the drug crisis threatening too many Maine families. By strengthening prevention, education, treatment, and law enforcement efforts, specifically increasing access to naloxone, she has displayed a commitment to saving every life possible.
