Rosen Votes to Extend Middle-Class Tax Cuts, Introduces Resolution and Amendments Supporting Simpler and Fairer Tax Code for Nevada Families

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03), released the following statement after voting for H.R. 6760, the Protecting Family and Small Business Tax Cuts Act of 2018, legislation that will make middle-class tax cuts permanent. Earlier this week, Rosen filed two amendments to H.R. 6760 seeking to prevent the extension of tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, and to make the child tax credit fully refundable. Republicans in the House Rules Committee blocked both of these commonsense amendments from coming to the floor and voted against the child tax credit amendment 7-3.

Rosen also introduced a House resolution yesterday expressing support for making middle-class tax cuts permanent, closing special interest loopholes, and enacting a simpler and fairer tax code.

"Nevada families deserve a simpler, fairer tax code," said Rosen. "While I made efforts to address flaws in this legislation, it does follow through on making middle-class tax cuts permanent for Nevada's hardworking families, which is something I've advocated for as part of reforming the tax code. While the Republican tax law passed last year was a massive giveaway to giant corporations and corporate CEOs, this legislation is focused on giving Nevadans permanent tax relief. We still need to revisit tax reform to bring things back into balance, close special interest loopholes, and ensure that the wealthiest Americans and big corporations are paying their fair share. I'm committed to doing what's right for Nevada's middle class families and will continue to reach across the aisle and work in a bipartisan manner wherever possible."
