Engel Statement on Acts of Terrorism in New York

Statement

Date: Oct. 24, 2018

Congressman Eliot L. Engel issued the following statement:

"Since Monday, the Westchester and New York City area has endured three acts of terrorism, targeting progressive leaders and a bastion of the free American press. Similar incidents have been targeted at President Obama and Representative Wasserman-Schultz. This has to stop. The President has a moral obligation to lead here by abandoning his relentless attacks on Democrats and the press, which have only stoked the flames. Joking about body-slamming reporters, calling a free press fake news, and threatening to lock up political opponents encourages these unhinged individuals, and eventually someone is going to be seriously hurt or worse. I call on the President to personally rebuke these despicable actions, and stop fomenting division in this country.

"I am, as always, grateful to the local police departments and the United States Secret Service, who have responded quickly and professionally to these acts of terrorism, thankfully preventing any injuries."
