Jones Grateful for Hurricane First Responders and Volunteers

Statement

Date: Sept. 20, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-03) is thanking all first responders and volunteers answering the call to serve in North Carolina before, during, and after the destruction of Hurricane Florence. He released the following statement:

"Words cannot adequately express my appreciation for the first responders and volunteers who stepped up this past week," said Congressman Jones. "It is incredible to see emergency services, armed services, FEMA, and volunteers work hand-in-hand through one of the worst storms this state has ever seen. You served meals, you lent a helping hand, and most importantly, you saved lives. Thank you for making a difference and continuing to spread hope as we begin the recovery process."

As of this week, over 126,000 meals/snacks had been served, over 2,200 rescues occurred, and over 3,000 federal employees spanning 40 agencies were assisting with disaster response. Countless state, local and non-profit personnel are playing a pivotal role as well.

"The needs are great and there is much work to be done," continued Congressman Jones, "but together, we will overcome."
