Issue Position: Health Care

Issue Position

Without health insurance, every Idahoan is one accident or unforeseen illness away from bankruptcy. We all deserve access to a quality health care system that keeps people healthy and helps them in emergencies without financial ruin. This is especially true for Idaho's large population of uninsured children.

Substance abuse ruins people's lives and impacts the corrections system, the judicial system, hospitals, schools, and communities. In 2019 I helped champion a bill, with broad bipartisan support, that would make Naloxone and Narcan, which are used to treat opioid overdoses, more widely available, but we need to be doing more to prevent addiction. This year I am working on The Idaho Behavioral Health Council, a joint effort of the legislature, courts and Governor Little, to improve care for Idahoans with mental health and substance use disorders.

I support actions to stabilize the Idaho insurance exchange, protect and fund Medicaid Expansion in Idaho and build better processes to control costs.
