Faso Applauds Successful Installation of New Generator at Catskill Regional Medical Center

Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) yesterday celebrated the installation of a new, state-of-the art 1500kW generator at the Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Harris, New York. Congressman Faso has worked with officials at CRMC and at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to secure the $1,726,697 grant that funded 75% of the generator's purchase and installation.

"The successful installation of this new, fuel efficient generator at Catskill Regional Medical Center is imperative for the hospital to provide life-saving care to members of the Catskill community through flooding and other emergencies," said Faso. "I am pleased that we were able to work with CRMC and federal officials to help the hospital obtain this significant funding."

"We are extremely grateful to Congressman Faso for helping us secure this grant. Our new generator is state-of-the-art, fuel efficient and will meet our power needs for many years to come," said Catskill Regional Medical Center CEO Jonathan Schiller. "Having this new generator means that we'll always have reliable back up power for critical, life-saving equipment and services in the event of a total hospital power failure."

Background:

CRMC was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in October of 2017 to upgrade its 800kW generator. Faso worked with officials at CRMC and FEMA to secure this funding that had been sought since Hurricane Sandy hit New York in 2012. The generator is constructed in an area safe from flooding, ensuring the hospital can continue to operate through power outages.
