Following a phone call between Congressman Eliot Engel the Bronx NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner last Friday, DOT has paved over an anti-Semitic message that was carved into the sidewalk on Johnson Avenue, near West 238th Street.
Engel's office first reached out to DOT regarding the vandalized sidewalk over the summer, then continued to follow-up on behalf of Johnson Avenue residents who were offended by the offensive message carved into their sidewalk. The Congressman then personally reached out to facilitate a quicker resolution to the problem, and DOT responded by paving over the vandalized section of sidewalk several days later.
"Anti-Semitism has no place in our neighborhood or any neighborhood," Engel said. "I am pleased that following our phone call, DOT was able to cover up this blight in short order."
