Gottheimer Earns Endorsement of NJ State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)

Today, October 4, 2018, Josh Gottheimer received the endorsement of the New Jersey State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), which represents more than 13,000 sworn law enforcement officers across the state of New Jersey.

In his first term, Gottheimer has been a leading bipartisan advocate for law enforcement and first responders, including crossing party lines to vote for the Thin Blue Line Act. A member of both the bipartisan Law Enforcement Caucus and the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, Gottheimer is one of just two Democrats to have earned a perfect 100% score from the National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) for his support of the men and women who serve our communities.

Dedicated to fighting terrorism at home and abroad, Gottheimer has announced two bipartisan bills to provide law enforcement with the tools, information, training and authority they need to combat new and evolving threats, such as ISIS-inspired lone wolf terrorism. The Darren Drake Combatting 21st Century Weapons of Terror Act will require background checks on those who rent trucks and the Freezing Assets of Domestic Terrorists and Enemy Recruits Act -- known as the FASTER Act -- will seize the funds of homegrown terrorists.

In Congress, Gottheimer has also made it a priority to work with towns and local police and fire departments to secure the equipment, training and resources they need to fight crime and terror and keep their communities safe, while also helping towns reduce their property tax bills. In the last year, Gottheimer has helped claw back $290 for every family in the district -- a 16% increase over recent years. That includes more than $3.4 million in equipment returned to the district through the U.S. Department of Defense Law Enforcement Support Organization (LESO) Program, which is nearly five times the average return through the program from 2012-2016.
