Insider NJ - Gottheimer Captures More Than $1.8 Million in Non-Profit Security

Press Release

Date: Sept. 17, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Fourteen schools, temples, and churches in New Jersey's Fifth Congressional District received more than $1.8 million in Non-Profit Security Grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. These grants go toward strengthening the National Preparedness System which consists of identifying and assessing risk, estimating capability requirements, building and sustaining capabilities, and planning to implement, validating, and reviewing and revising those capabilities.

"Safety and security in our places of worship is at the bedrock of the American idea. Part of what makes America the greatest country in the world is our ability to practice our faiths in the manner in which we choose, free from violence," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer. "I'm proud to fight for these grants that clawback our federal tax dollars to protect our most fundamental freedoms and defend communities of faith from threats of violence and acts of lone-wolf terrorism."

The schools, temples, and churches receiving the NPS grants are:

Ben Porat Yosef in Paramus, $150,000
Congregation B'nai Israel of Emerson, $55,000
Congregation Bnai Yeshuran Teaneck, $85,000
Fair Lawn Jewish Center, $85,000
Glen Rock Jewish Center, $77,165
Grace Redeemer Church, $150,000
Northern Teaneck Synagogue Association DBA congregation Keter Torah, $150,000
Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County, $150,000
St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, $150,000
Temple Emanu-El of Closter, $98,000
Temple Emanuel of Pascack Valley, $150,000
The Frisch School, $150,000
Yeshiva of North Jersey, $150,000
Yeshivat He'Atid Inc, $150,000

Gottheimer has worked closely with counties, towns, and nonprofits to help apply for and win competitive federal security grants, clawing back our federal tax dollars to fight homegrown terror. In June, he was proud to announce nearly $4 million from the Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program to help protect our families and our communities from sickening hate-driven crimes.
