Congressman Kinzinger Votes for Critical Funding Measure

Today, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) voted in favor of the Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 6157 -- the Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act of 2019. Included in this funding package are major priorities for the country and Illinois communities that bolster our defenses and rebuild our military, help veterans transition back into the workforce with better job-training, increase critical research for the Cancer Moonshot, Alzheimer's Disease, pediatric cancer, etc., and combat the opioid epidemic with dedicated grants to state responses.

Congressman Kinzinger also voted in favor of the Continuing Appropriations Act, included in the H.R. 6157 package, which provides funding through December 7, 2018 to extend the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act (VAWA) and provides an additional $8.8 billion for victims of Hurricane Florence.

After the passage of the funding measure, Congressman Kinzinger released the following statement:

"Funding the government and improving the safety and well-being of hard-working Americans is one of the most important and basic responsibilities of Congress. Today, I voted in favor of this Conference Report because it provides funding for issues that affect my constituents in IL-16 and dedicates resources to ensure America's safety and security. When enacted, this Conference Report will be the first time in ten years that the Department of Defense will not have to operate under a Continuing Resolution. This return to regular order is critical, especially for our military readiness and our counterterrorism capabilities, and fully funding the Pentagon will provide much needed stability for our national defense.

"As is the case in many areas across the country, our IL-16 communities have been plagued by opioid abuse. The additional funding and state grants provided in this package will further support treatment and prevention, increase opioid addiction research, and assist law enforcement efforts in dealing with the many issues they face with the opioid crisis.

"I'm proud to have voted in favor of these two critical measures, and to fulfill our promise to the American people, putting us on a safer, more hopeful, and more secure path for the future."
