Cornyn Provision to Authorize Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Project Passes the Senate

U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement after the Senate authorized the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' hurricane and storm damage risk reduction project from Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay. This provision was included in the bipartisan America's Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA), which passed the Senate today.

"As Texas continues to rebuild from Hurricane Harvey and prepare for storms to come, it's critical we take steps to ensure the coastal region can better withstand major weather events," said Sen. Cornyn. "Protecting our coast from storm damage means protecting Texans, our communities, and our well-being. I'm grateful we're one step closer toward breaking ground on this much-needed project."

Sen. Cornyn helped secure nearly $4 billion in federal appropriations to advance this project in the Bipartisan Budget Act, which was signed into law in February.

Today's passage of this authorization provision marks the final Congressional action prior to the USACE and the relevant local governments breaking ground on this project.
