Hensarling Statement on NAFTA Deal

Statement

Date: Oct. 1, 2018

U.S. Congressman Jeb Hensarling (TX-5) released the following statement after the a deal was reached between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to revise the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and rename it the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"Free trade is vital to keeping our economy strong, wages high, and prices low for American consumers. Protectionist trade practices, on the other hand, are a form of crony capitalism where the government picks both the winners and the losers. I am glad that we reached an agreement and that we will continue to have a trilateral trade pact with our North American neighbors. As I study the details of the United States Mexico Canada Agreement, I hope to see that it brings us closer to President Trump's stated goal of trade with "no tariffs, no barriers.'"
