ConocoPhillips Alaska recently achieved first oil production at the Greater Mooses Tooth drill site ("GMT-1") in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska ("NPR-A"), the company reported on Tuesday.

Governor Bill Walker released the following statement on the development:

"The onset of oil production at GMT-1 is good news for Alaskans who will benefit from new jobs and increased production in the trans-Alaska pipeline. The Department of Natural Resources played a key role in permitting this project and is working with industry, local communities, and federal agencies on other promising oil prospects in the NPR-A."

-- Governor Bill Walker

GMT-1 is located on lands owned by the federal government and Arctic Slope Regional Corp. ("ASRC"), with ASRC owning 82 percent of the mineral estate. ASRC revenue from GMT-1 will be shared with Alaska Native corporation shareholders throughout Alaska under 7(i) and 7(j) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. A portion of the federal royalties will be redistributed to the NPR-A Impact Mitigation Fund for the benefit of impacted North Slope communities.
