Sessions Continues to Fight for North Texas Businesses

Statement

Date: Sept. 18, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Trade

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, issued the following statement today after the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) released their final tariff list:

"While I remain skeptical about the effectiveness of tariffs and will continue to push the Trump Administration to explore more targeted trade negotiation tactics, I am glad to see that my efforts to keep TX-32 based companies, like Fossil, off the most recent tariff list have been successful.

"In a letter to U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Lighthizer, in late August, I highlighted the potentially negative impact of tariffs and retaliatory actions on companies, like Fossil, including higher costs, downsizing, and job loss in North Texas. I appreciate that this company, and others that rely on trade, have been spared at this time and I will continue to fight for Texas enterprise and smart trade deals."
