When elected to the Senate in 2000, Sen. Debbie Stabenow made it a goal to "turn around every failing public school" by the year 2010. Eight years past the self-imposed deadline, Michigan's schools are far from reaching that goal.

"Too many children in both rural and urban communities are still trapped in failing schools," John James said. "Sen. Stabenow has had ample opportunity to deliver real education reform for our children, but has failed to do so. It's time for real leadership that will deliver results. No excuses."

A recent report, testing the reading and math proficiency of students shows Michigan continuing to underperform, with little change in 2017 from previous numbers. The worst news: the numbers coming out of the city of Detroit were the WORST in the nation.

"I've lived the American Dream, and we must protect that Dream for future generations, which means providing education opportunities for our children that reflect a new economy," James added. "If we don't give our children a fair shot, we are taking away their opportunity at the very American Dream we are fighting to protect."

James posted a video on Stabenow's failure to lead on education, which received thousands of views in the initial hours it was posted. Education is not the only area where Stabenow has shown a dereliction of duty. Stabenow recently admitted that she has not been focused on issues involving veterans transitioning home and housing provisions under the GI Bill.

"Sen. Stabenow has been in office for 43 years, 20 in DC, and hasn't delivered on her promises to our children and their parents," campaign manager Tori Sachs said. "There is a pattern here. Stabenow has failed our children, our veterans, our farmers, our families, our state. Michigan deserves better."
