Sensenbrenner Statement on Delay Indictment
September 28, 2005

(WASHINGTON, DC) -- Menomonee Falls Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner issued the following statement after learning about the grand jury indictment of House Majority Leader Tom Delay:

"After several months of rumors, conjecture and media gossip, Americans have now been presented with real news relative to the investigation into House Majority Leader Tom Delay. With this indictment by a Texas grand jury, Congressman Delay was required to step down as House Majority Leader, as dictated by House rules.

"In America, no one is above the law, but everyone also deserves the right to counter charges against them in a court of law. I have the utmost confidence in our justice system to put politics aside and consider these serious charges in a fair and just manner.

"As this case proceeds, my colleagues in Congress and I will continue to work to address issues that affect all Americans. Given all that's happened over the past few weeks, Congress needs to focus on the business of the nation, instead of being distracted by reports from Texas courts."
