Knight Introduces Bill to Support National Park Workers

Date: July 31, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

On Thursday, July 26, 2018, Representative Steve Knight (R-CA) introduced bipartisan legislation to support seasonal employees of the National Park Service (NPS). Under existing regulation, seasonal employees of the NPS are only permitted to work at one National Park at a time. H.R. 6599, which is co-lead by Representative Jimmy Panette (D-CA), would amend the law to permit seasonal employees to be employed by multiple NPS sites in a given year.

"Among our most beloved blessings in America is the abundance of beautiful landscapes and wonders throughout our nation," said Rep. Knight "California, in particular, has an especially high concentration of national parks. Seasonal employment with the NPS is often a great opportunity for people starting their careers or individual who are passionate about sharing these treasures with other Americans and visitors from around the world. This bill will help improve the flexibility for NPS workers and allow them to fully engage with the important work that they do."

Representative Knight is a member of the House Committees on Armed Services, Science, Space, & Technology, and Small Business. He is the author of H.R. 2156, the Saint Francis Dam Disaster National Memorial Act.
