Date: June 21, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Paul Mitchell released the following statement after voting to pass H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act, commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, which reforms and reauthorizes farm and nutrition assistance programs for five years.

"America's food security relies on a healthy agriculture industry, and today's vote supports Michigan's food and agriculture sector, which contributes more than $100 billion to our economy," said Mitchell. "With the American farm economy seeing a 52% decline in the past five years, we must work to provide stability for farmers and ranchers, strengthen rural communities, and help Americans access nutritious foods. This bill makes improvements to dairy policy, preserves the sugar program, authorizes investments in rural broadband, and makes reforms to ensure the integrity of SNAP."
