Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on President Trump's Failure to Meet Deadline to Reunite Children

Statement

Date: July 26, 2018

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement after the Trump Administration missed a court-ordered deadline to reunite more than 2,500 children who were separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border:

"President Trump's decision to separate children from their families is cruel and un-American. This traumatic experience will forever scar thousands of children and families. The Trump Administration's failure to meet the reunification deadline further illuminates its inability to govern with competence or compassion.

"Congress should act on comprehensive immigration reform that both protects our borders and allows for immigrants who are seeking asylum in this country to be treated humanely."

This month, Congressman Kildee visited with children in Michigan separated from their families at the southern border. Congressman Kildee also helped introduce the Keep Families Together Act to permanently keep families together.
