Congressman Dan Kildee on EPA Inspector General's Report on the Flint Water Crisis

Statement

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) issued the following statement following the release of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of Inspector General's report on the Flint water crisis:

"As I have said before, the Flint water crisis was a failure of all levels of government. Justice for Flint families comes in many forms and the release of this report is one form of holding those responsible accountable.

"Since learning of the water crisis, I have called on the EPA to conduct a full investigation into what went wrong and how government failed Flint. In Congress, I have worked to pass new laws, like the Kildee-Upton law, that now requires the EPA to immediately notify the public after learning of high levels of lead in drinking water. I also continue to push for Congress to pass my legislation, the NO LEAD Act, which would update the outdated federal Lead and Copper Rule and better protect public health. As the EPA's Office of Inspector General suggested, the EPA should move to update the Lead and Copper Rule. The Rule has not been updated in more than 25 years and the Trump Administration continues to delay action.

"I will continue fighting to make sure that Flint families have the resources they need to recover from this man-made tragedy and work so that a similar crisis does not happen elsewhere."
