FEMA Denies WI Aid; Kind to Appeal Decision
September 23, 2005

Washington, DC - U.S. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) said he would appeal the decision that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is denying disaster relief aid to Wisconsin communities damaged as a result of the severe storms and tornadoes that occurred on August 18. Kind and Wisconsin's entire Congressional delegation sent a letter to President Bush supporting Governor Jim Doyle's request to declare a major disaster for the State of Wisconsin.

"I am disappointed that FEMA has denied disaster aid to help meet the unmet needs of those communities still recovering from the string of tornadoes and severe storms that swept through the southern part of the state in August," stated Rep. Kind. "The village of Viola and the other impacted communities need assistance, and I intend to work closely with Governor Doyle and the
other members of Wisconsin's delegation to vigorously appeal FEMA's decision."
