The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), announced today a hearing for Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, "Oversight of the Federal Trade Commission."
Next week, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Joe Simons and the recently confirmed bench of commissioners will testify before #SubDCCP, continuing the subcommittee's tradition of oversight of the agency. The hearing will focus on consumer data protection and data privacy issues, efforts to combat robocalls and scams, as well as improve transparency and efficiency at the FTC, among other priorities.
"The FTC has long been known as the "cop on the beat' for consumer protection, and in today's fast-moving internet age, the commission is tackling a new set of challenges when it comes to keeping consumers -- and their information -- safe. Next week's hearing builds upon the FTC's and this subcommittee's efforts at the forefront of digital privacy and security," said Chairman Latta. "I look forward to discussing with the commission our common goals to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive, and malicious practices both online and off."
