Velázquez Praises Raise for Public Workers in Puerto Rico

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement in response to the Governor of Puerto Rico's Executive Order raising the minimum wage for public construction workers to $15 per hour:

"This order means hardworking men and women in Puerto Rico who work in construction will be able to provide for their families. As the Island continues to recover and rebuild, this will also help stimulate the local economy and encourage more Puerto Ricans to remain on the Island or return from the mainland. I thank the Laborers' International Union of North America for all their hard work on this issue and salute all those who endeavored to affect this positive change."
