Issue Position: Jobs and Economy

Issue Position

Nancy knows that the middle class is the backbone of our democracy. In her time Congress, she has fought for good-paying jobs, living wages and always worked to strengthen the middle class. In the aftermath of the Great Recession, she led the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- which, to this day, has saved and/or created millions of American jobs across the country.

But more must be done. America's middle class families have struggled while special interests and corporations continue benefitting from a rigged economy. This must end.

Democrats Fight Back
A better deal

Americans were promised so much, but have received a raw deal from Donald Trump and the Republican Congress. Democrats are offering families A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, and a Better Future. With concrete policy proposals, we will increase the incomes and wages of our American workers while at the same time creating millions of good-paying jobs by investing in and rebuilding our nation's crumbling infrastructure, empowering unions, and ensuring every American has the tools they need to succeed in the 21st Century economy. From prescription drugs to education, we will fight to decrease the cost of living in America.

Minimum Wage

Under the Speakership of Nancy Pelosi, Democrats raised the minimum wage for working Americans. But Republicans have refused to modernize it ever since, rejecting Democrats' repeated attempts to raise the minimum wage. Under a Democratic Majority, we will make $15 minimum wage a reality.

GOP Tax Scam

We believe Americans deserve true bipartisan tax reform that focuses on the middle class -- not a tax scam that enriches big corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent by exploding the debt and mortgaging the future Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security

This is why Nancy has been traveling from community to community across the country to inform Americans about the consequences of the Republican tax bill: it's a GOP Tax Scam where 83 percent of the benefits go to the top 1 percent; that ultimately increases taxes on 86 million middle class families; irresponsibly adds nearly $2 trillion to the deficit; and endangers the future of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
