Issue Position: Campaign Finance Reform, Gerrymandering and Voting Rights

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2020

Since Citizens United, unlimited, secret money has flooded the airwaves and continuously drowned the say of millions of Americans -- emboldening the dangerous, special interest agenda of the Koch Brothers and Republican corporate donors.

With their gerrymandered maps, Republicans have gone great lengths to rig the rules of our democracy against voters who know they choose their elected officials, not the other way around. At the same time, Americans across the country have encountered cynical Republican efforts to raise new barriers to vote at the ballot box.

Our Founders pledged their lives, their liberty and their sacred honor to create a democracy: a government of the many, not government of the money.

Nancy Fighting Back:

Voting Rights

Following the Supreme Court's decision to undo vital safeguards in the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Republicans have accelerated their effort to raise new barriers to the ballot box. This kind of oppression must end -- and Democrats' Voting Rights Advancement Act and the Voter Empowerment Act will put a stop to this, ensuring every American can make their voices heard in our elections.

Fixing the Broken Campaign System

We must repair our broken campaign system. Democrats have a solution. We issue our D.A.R.E: we will work to Disclose those behind the endless money in our politics; Amend the Constitution to right the Citizens United verdict; Reform the current campaign finance system we find ourselves in, and Empower our people to participate in our democracy by voting. To continue taking on special interest money, Democrats will arm the American people with the necessary tools via the Government by the People Act.
