Marchant Statement on Border Crisis and Treatment of Alien Families

Statement

Date: June 19, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Kenny Marchant (R-TX), released the following statement addressing the border crisis and treatment of alien families:

"Today, I cosponsored the Equal Protection of Unaccompanied Minors Act," said Marchant. "This bill reunites alien families and allows the Trump administration to enforce the law without separating these families. Current facilities can and should be configured to accommodate family units and more federal judges and magistrates are needed to speed up the adjudication process."

"We have an opportunity to pass meaningful legislation that closes these dangerous immigration loopholes, and addresses longstanding issues. I am encouraged to see our Texas Senators take the lead in addressing this in the Senate in a responsible way to fix the backlog of immigration cases and remove legal barriers to quicken processing while protecting minor aliens. I appreciate all of the phone calls and letters from my constituents voicing their opinion on this issue. I am hopeful this can be resolved by the House and Senate and legislation can be sent to the President correcting this issue in the next few days."
