U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement today on President Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court :

"The next Supreme Court Justice will face important cases and have a considerable impact on women's rights, LGBT equality, Citizens United, immigration laws, consumer privacy, and protecting Americans' basic rights of liberty, equality and opportunity. As the final judge in all cases involving the law of the land, the Supreme Court has immense power to shape the future of our country. It also serves as a critically important check on the executive and legislative branch. That is why the process for appointing a Supreme Court Justice should rise above politics, and I implore my colleagues in the Senate to handle the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh with the seriousness and care it deserves."
