Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the VA Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks Act (MISSION) Act by a vote of 347-70. This legislation contains three key components that strengthen care for America's veterans. Specifically, the bill streamlines the department's duplicative community care programs into one cohesive program, establishes a non-partisan process for reviewing VA assets to ensure veterans can access earned care, and expands the Post-9/11 Caregiver Program to all eras. The bill also provides funding for the VA Choice Program which is expected to run out of funds as early as May 31, 2018.
"As a veteran in the VA healthcare system, I understand how many aspects of the VA are long overdue for a change. This bill consolidates community care into a single, cohesive program and expands the Post-9/11 Caregiver Program to all veterans. These reforms not only improve access but expand care to veterans who need it most, especially in rural and underserved areas," said Congressman Scott Taylor.
