U.S. Rep. Castor's Statement on Resignation of Scott Pruitt

Statement

Date: July 5, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Castor (FL14) released the following statement after the resignation of Scott Pruitt as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator:

"President Trump's EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt's resignation is long overdue. Unfortunately the damage done by Pruitt and Republicans to the water we drink, the air we breathe and future generations will be long lasting. Many of his efforts to rollback regulations to appease regulated industries and special interests are still in place and Andrew Wheeler, the interim EPA Administrator, represents a continuation of Pruitt's close ties to special interests the EPA is supposed to regulate. President Trump and Republicans in Congress turned a blind eye towards the corruption for too long. Even President Trump's send-off to the corrupt former EPA Administrator complimented Pruitt's assault on our environment, showing a clear contempt for America's health and environmental protections. It is clear that we cannot rest -- the future of our health and our environment are still in danger and we must continue our work to save them."

In April, echoing the sentiment of many organizations in Tampa Bay, Florida and her colleagues in the U.S. Congress, U.S. Rep. Castor introduced House Resolution 834 calling the resignation of then-EPA Administrator Pruitt. Since its introduction, more than 140 of U.S Rep. Castor's colleagues in Congress joined her in expressing no confidence in Scott Pruitt's dedication to the American people and called for his resignation.
