Hartzler Selected as Conferee for FY19 Defense Bill

Statement

Date: June 27, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-04), Chairwoman of the Oversight & Investigations Subcommittee on the House Armed Services Committee, was named by Speaker Paul Ryan as a conferee on the Conference Committee for the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). As part of the committee, made up of leaders from the House and Senate, Hartzler will help to resolve the differences between the House and Senate versions of the 2019 defense authorization bill.

"Providing for a strong national defense is the primary obligation of the federal government. Each year, the conferees meet in a bipartisan fashion to negotiate the differences between the two defense bills. I look forward to working with my colleagues again this year to craft final legislation that restores readiness and ensures our military is better equipped to meet the multitude of threats we face today."

The NDAA is the annual legislation that determines the policies and funding levels for the U.S. Department of Defense and other national security entities. Hartzler has served on the House Armed Services Committee since 2011. The subcommittee that she currently chairs, the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, oversees the Administration's defense policies and ensures accountability within the Department of Defense.
