Rep. Kihuen on the Six-Year Anniversary of DACA

Press Release

Date: June 15, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Rep. Ruben J. Kihuen (NV-04) today released the following statement on the 6th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

"Protecting the DACA program and DREAMers is a personal issue for me. When I was eight years old, my family came to the United States in search of better opportunities. As the first DREAMer to serve in Congress, I know firsthand that DREAMers are a part of the fabric of this country. Many serve in our military, teach in schools and run businesses--providing significant civic, economic and cultural benefits to our nation.

"We can't leave DREAMers in limbo, and comprehensive immigration reform is needed. Unfortunately, efforts to enact real reforms in Congress have been blocked by House Republicans for years. Yesterday, after months, and hundreds of hours of House Republicans and Democrats working across the aisle on bipartisan immigration proposals, Republican leadership hastily released legislation that would codify President Trump's anti-immigrant agenda.

"This Administration has a record of inhumane treatment towards immigrants, but I, along with my Democrat colleagues, remain committed to fighting for a permanent, bipartisan solution for DREAMers that truly upholds American values."
