Rep. Titus Releases Statement on Gun Violence Prevention Day

Representative Dina Titus of Nevada's First Congressional District released the following statement to mark Gun Violence Prevention Day:

"As we mark nine months since the tragedy of 1 October we must commit ourselves to addressing the plague of gun violence that is taking lives in concert venues, classrooms, playgrounds, movie theaters, dance clubs, houses of worship, and places where we live, study, work, and play," said Rep. Titus, a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. "From large cities to rural communities, nowhere is immune from this epidemic. I have introduced and advocated for many pieces of legislation to address the myriad of issues related to the prevalence of gun violence taking lives across the country. Yet from the Republican leaders of our government we hear only silence.

We need action and we need leadership that will: restore the assault weapons ban, ensure that bump stocks and similar devices are prohibited, establish universal background checks, and allow CDC researchers to study the societal impacts of gun violence, among other sensible proposals. Republican leaders and the gun lobby cannot ignore these tragedies any longer. Every day our friends, family members, and neighbors are dying from preventable gun violence. This year more children have died at school than have service members on the battlefield. Trump has said that he is not afraid of the NRA; yet instead of promoting real solutions, he is pushing to arm teachers for the benefit of gun manufacturers."
