My Story: Why I Am Running for Congress

Statement

I am an immigrant, a blue collar worker, and a small business owner whose dreams reflect those of this district far better than 30-year-politician David Price. Allow me to tell you my story.

My job as Congressman will be to represent you. Your hopes, concerns, and attitudes are all of great importance to me because I seek to understand them and give them a voice. This task is one that career politicians like David Price have neglected for more than 30 years. I want you to know that my story is different. I am an immigrant, a blue collar worker, and a small business owner whose dreams reflect those of this district far better than 30-year-politician David Price. Allow me to tell you my story.

Long before I decided to run for public office, I had the dream of living in America. I was born in Alabama, but grew up in Ecuador, which allowed me the valuable chance to view the United States from afar. Over those years, my mother instilled in me a strong work ethic, conservative values, and a great appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities the United States presents. When I arrived in Durham, NC at the age of 19, I was ready to make the most of it.

My first job was at a car repair shop where I worked with my hands during the day. In the evenings, I continued my education by taking English classes at Durham Community College and also worked as a waiter. My prior education consisted of a high school diploma and an automotive degree from a government-sponsored technical school in Ecuador. I worked long hours and saved money in order to pursue my dreams.

My dream was to be a business owner. I gained leadership experience working for IBM in RTP where I became the first Hispanic to run a manufacturing line with all Hispanic employees, and also from working as a supervisor at a temp agency where I helped Hispanic employees train for new jobs. These experiences primed me for creating my own translating company, which I now run with my wife, Maria Elisa.

My dream now is to support your dreams. We all have our own unique version of the American dream, and I urge you to reclaim yours by giving me your support. I will continue working to understand the challenges facing the hard-working Americans of the Fourth District so that everyone can work towards achieving their dreams.
