Duckworth, Durbin Announce $12,800 for Public Safety Improvements in Aledo, Illinois

U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) announced $12,800 in federal funding today to help the City of Aledo purchase a new squad car for the Aledo Police Department. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development's Community Facilities program, which assists rural communities develop or improve important public services and facilities.

"Investments like these are critical in helping rural communities such as Aledo to protect and serve families," Duckworth said. "I will continue working with Senator Durbin to make sure that hardworking Illinoisans throughout the state receive the federal support they deserve."

"From large cities to small towns, all Illinoisans deserve access to high-quality public safety services," Durbin said. "This federal funding will help the Aledo Police Department provide essential services to the community and Senator Duckworth and I will continue working to ensure that all parts of our states have access to these critical federal investments."

"Without this grant, the city of Aledo would not have been able to afford a new car, as we just don't have the depth of budget," said Aledo Chief of Police, Chris Sullivan. "We were in desperate need for a reliable squad car to continue providing services the community needs. The new squad car will be a great help to the City and Police Department."

USDA Rural Development invests in infrastructure projects across the country through loans and grants to underserved rural communities. These resources provide much-needed infrastructure improvements that help business development, homeownership, community services, public safety, healthcare and access to high-speed internet.
