Goodlatte Statement on SCOTUS Decision Protecting Freedom of Conscience

Statement

Date: June 26, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's decision in the case of National Institute of Family and Life Advocates vs. Becerra. Today's 5-4 ruling argues that a California law requiring pro-life pregnancy centers to post information about abortion services is likely a violation of the First Amendment.

"I applaud the Supreme Court's decision today that holds it is likely unconstitutional for the government to force organizations opposed to abortion to post notices on how to obtain an abortion. Americans deserve the freedom to live and work according to their conscience and today's decision is a step forward in ensuring these protections."
