Introduced a proposal that was passed and signed into law ensuring that states that choose to opt-out of Common Core do not lose federal funding.

Introduced the bipartisan Student Testing Improvement and Accountability Act (H.R. 1601) to roll back federally mandated testing to pre No Child Left Behind levels.

Advanced the investment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM, H.R. 1020) in our schools, which was signed into law on October 7, 2015.

To help address the student loan debt crisis, introduced the Earnings Contingent Education Loans (ExCEL) Act (H.R. 2580).

Cosponsored the Local Control of Education Act (H.R. 524), which prohibits the federal government from using grants or waivers to mandate, incentivize, or coerce states into adopting Common Core, ensuring that control over education is left to the states.

Cosponsor of bipartisan legislation to expand Pell Grant tax credits, the Pell Grant Flexibility Act (H.R. 3581), impacting over 5,000 students at Stony Brook University alone.

Served on the Higher Education Committee in the New York State Senate.
