Issues: K-12 Education

The Department of Education became a Cabinet level agency during the Carter Administration in 1980. Despite being in business for over 34 years, they have completely failed to improve our nations schools. New presidents, new plans, and they all fail. If your favorite football team ran the ball up the middle 34 times in a row and couldn't pick up one first down, whoever called the plays would get fired. The federal government has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that they can't fix our nations schools. Let's shut down the Department of Education.

President Name of Plan

George H.W.Bush Goals 2000 (5 goals)

Bill Clinton Goals 2000 (Added 3 more goals)

-In 1999 the New York Times had a headline: "Failure 8, Goals 2000 0." They failed on everything.

George W. Bush No Child Left behind. -Another total failure. This should have been called, "No School District Administrator Left behind."

Barack Obama Race to the Top -Another failure.

From the Department of Education website: "Despite the growth of the Federal role in education, the Department never strayed far from what would become its official mission: to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access." They admit that the Federal role in education has grown. They need to admit that they have completely failed in their mission.

My plan is to shut down the Department of Education. Nevada should have school choice like they have in Minnesota. We also should cut the CCSD administration in half and give school principals and teachers much more power to make decisions about education.
