Mark Sanford is Trying to Have it Both Ways on His Vote Against Border Wall

Statement

Date: May 29, 2018
Issues: Immigration

Earlier today, Mark Sanford attacked Katie Arrington for telling the truth about Sanford's vote against President Trump's border wall. In his attack, Sanford admits to being one of only five Republicans to vote against funding for President Trump's border wall.

Arrington responded:

"Mark Sanford was one of only five Republicans to vote against President Trump's border wall. That is a fact. Mark Sanford admits it is a fact. But now he's trying to talk his way out of it. Typical politician -- Mark wants to have it both ways; but when it came time to cast a vote on the cornerstone of President Trump's platform, Mark Sanford abandoned the President while attacking him on cable news. It's time to turn the page on the Mark Sanford era and elect a conservative who will stand with President Trump."

In his attack, Sanford accuses Arrington of "making things up" and then admits to the factual assertion in Arrington's ad: he admits that he voted against President Trump's border wall.
