Career Politicians Playing Partisan Politics with our Healthcare

Press Release

Date: June 8, 2018
Location: Fairfield, NJ

In back-to-back attacks on our healthcare, Republicans in Washington moved last night to strip millions of Americans of their protection from discrimination for pre-existing conditions and to slash funding for Medicare and CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program). In response to these decisions, Mikie Sherrill, Democratic nominee for Congress in New Jersey's 11th District, released the following statement:

"Once again, Republicans in Washington are playing partisan politics with our healthcare. They are attempting to pay for their disastrous tax plan by cutting healthcare funding for our most vulnerable citizens--seniors and children. We need representation in Washington that will fight to bring down healthcare costs and ensure that each and every American has quality and affordable healthcare. Career politicians in Washington and here at home--like Assemblyman Jay Webber who supported the repeal bill which would have taken health insurance away from 27,000 people in the 11th district--are doing all they can to dismantle our healthcare system and make it impossible for our families and our seniors to afford healthcare in this country. Our community, and the 319,600 residents in this district living with a pre-existing condition, deserve a representative who wants to build up our healthcare system, not destroy it."

Mikie Sherrill is a former Navy helicopter pilot, federal prosecutor, and mother of four. Sherrill is running for Congress to fight for our families and put their needs ahead of the partisanship that prevents Washington from getting things done. She is committed to quality and affordable healthcare for each and every American. She stands against stripping the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions of their access to care and is against reducing care for seniors and children by cutting Medicare and CHIP funding.
