Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on the U.S. decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from our allies -- Canada, Mexico and Europe:
"Today's announcement of tariffs on aluminum and steel imported from our allies will be harmful to U.S. manufacturers, consumers and workers, as well as unnecessarily strain our relationships with key partners. Many job creating manufacturers in my district rely on importing specialty steel not made in the U.S. -- this action will hurt their bottom line and their ability to succeed in the global economy. We must target countries like China who are dumping steel on our shores instead of punishing allies like Canada and Europe with tariffs that will incite a trade war. I urge the Administration to re-evaluate this action and develop a targeted solution to combat unfair steel and aluminum dumping."
