Date: May 17, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Congressman Drew Ferguson yesterday voted in favor of the Veterans Administration (VA) Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Networks (MISSION) Act of 2018. This legislation would improve the VA healthcare system for the approximately nine million veterans who rely on it.

"There are over 14,000 veterans in Georgia's Third District who have placed their lives on hold and often sacrificed their health to defend our freedoms," said Ferguson. "The least we can do to repay this debt of gratitude is ensure our servicemembers receive timely and accessible care that meets their needs. This legislation continues our work to rebuild the VA into a healthcare system that meets our veterans' needs."

Specifically, the VA MISSION Act would:

Create a process to modernize VA's massive medical infrastructure.
Provide funding for the Veterans Choice Program.
Expand the VA's Family Caregiver Program eligibility to pre-9/11 veterans.
Increase the VA's internal capacity to care for veteran patients in VA medical facilities.
Implement guidelines to help combat the opioid crisis.

The bill passed by a vote of 347-70 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
